Indexicality

• Some expressions can only be interpreted in the utterance context, e.g. I, now, here, that
• You can't recover the proposition (the truth conditions) without knowledge of the utterance context
• A context-dependent (indexical) sentence can be mapped onto a proposition, as expressed in a context-independent sentence
• Another form: point of view (right, left, front, back, on, under, come, go)
